But we do know the seller, who is none other than VF reader Tom (you might recall his sweet collection).

Contact Tom directly through the ad listing if you are interested—which, if the size fits, at that price you oughta be.

We spy Super Record, Cobalto brakes (minus the gems)… but no price.

00c9d3574078b8db05874ec473dd9bdf5e4e1cb0

This Cinelli Supercorsa bike has never been used. It only has been kept from the first owner only and it shows just a few small signs of “transportation”. It has been made for the 45th Anniversary of Cinelli and signed by Mr Colombo.
Size 52 (suitable for people between 165/170cm height.
It is built with Campagnolo Campagnolissimo, and Cinelli Stem and handle bars.
I am getting a certificate from Cinelli factory to prove the authenticity of it so I’ll be able to provide the bike with it too.
Regarding the price I am open to offers considering that that the example is a true sought after from the International market.

Eddie Merckx Corsa Extra in Team Hitachi colors

That’s a very fine-looking bike. Not our favorite EM team colors, but very nice all the same.

s-l160enth0

I have decided to sell my favorite mint condition Eddy Merckx road bike. I purchased this bike in 1988 from the High Wheeler bike shop in Boulder Colorado. It was the first professional level bicycle that I owned. In about 2005 I decided to freshen the bike up with a wonderful Joe Bell paint job in the original Hitachi paint scheme ($1,300 and worth every dollar). Also at this time a decision was made to change the bike from 7 speed to 8 speed. The rear chain stays were spread to 130mm, the shifting lugs on the down tube were removed and new ones were added to handle the lever shifters. See the photo for this change. These changes were done by Holland Bicycles, a professional custom builder in San Diego, California.

The bike is now equipped with 8 speed Dura Ace components with a Cinelli bar and stem. The wheels are made with Dura Ace hubs and Campagnolo Victory Strada rims. Veloflex tubular tires are mounted on the rims.

The bike has a 54.5 top tube. As I mentioned earlier, it has a wonderful Joe Bell paint job. You will not be able to feel any decals, it is a perfect high gloss finish. The bike has no dings or dents or scratches. The only imperfection to the paint was actually done last week when the rear wheel rubbed against the chain stay because the skewer wasn’t tight enough. Fortunately, it is not visible unless you remove the rear wheel. Please feel free to ask questions.

It’s eye-catching, to be sure, but we would have done a few things differently, to say the least.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have this rather sad-looking Riviera that has been disguised as a mass-produced, low-end touring bike:

00w0w_klGJRH25c6S_600x450

1960 Vintage Cinelli Riviera bicycle – $2000 (berkeley north / hills)

1960 Cinelli Riviera road bike. One owner. Has not been ridden in years, needs some TLC.
S/N: 242R
Color: Light blue and white.
Frame: Cinelli, Brakes: Weinmann Type 730, Wheels: Weinmann 27″ x 1-1/4″, Forks: Marcel, Rear Derailleur: Campagnolo, Handle Bars: DIA-COMPE.
Measurements as follows:
Top Tube (C-C): 22″
Seat Tube (C-C): 21″
Standover: 31.5″
Crank Length: 5″
Wheel Base: 43″

Looking for serious buyer/collector. $2000 OBO.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bik/5276145223.html

Both interesting, neither one optimal—but the Riviera’s shortcomings appear less costly to address.

Stripping away as opposed to replacing or redoing, essentially.

Almost a shame it was never ridden (purportedly). One wonders if that is what Antonio Colombo would have wanted.

Brand New Vintage Cinelli Laser Pista 1984/1985 Track Bicycle

Size 54cm

54cm Top Tube

54cm Seat Tube C-C

145mm Head Tube

Roval Tubular Wheelset

Columbus Aero Seatpost

Cinelli Bars & Stem

Campagnolo Pista Crankset 172.5

Campagnolo/Cinelli 54 Tooth Chainring

Cinelli Saddle

Cinelli M-71 Pedals

This bike was purchased in 1985 from Conrad’s on the Upper East Side of NYC. Single owner. He purchased this bike and hung it on his wall for 30 years, never rode it. It is in mint condition. Even the original Wolber Neo Pro tires are in excellent condition and hold air, the sidewalls are dry.

This is an amazingly rare bike. With some research I believe it was in the bike show in NYC for Cinelli. Conrad’s probably took it for sale and the original owner who purchased it in 1985 and has kept in on his wall for 30 years gave it for us to sell.

The decal on the Roval hubs is just peeling a little bit.

Somewhat tempted, if we’re honest!

s-l160ltvt0

You are bidding on a 1986 TVT LOOK 53cm Carbon Bernard Hinault Single Speed Conversion.

I found this bike at a used outdoor store. It has been upgraded over the years but all the parts are vintage high end.

I converted to a vintage single speed. I added some reproduction decals.

Details

Shimano 600 Brake levers and wheelset

Shimano Dura Ace Brakes

Campagnolo headset and crankset

In very good condition but rear derailleur hanger was damaged and removed. Unknown history and mileage.

I have a after market derailleur hanger included in case you would like to run gears!

1972 Raleigh Professional MK IV DL180 “Fast Back”

Beautiful lugs, beautiful color.

s-l160rp0

You are bidding on a “hard-to-find” medium size, 1972 Raleigh Professional MK IV “Fast Back” – (Serial number # G1593) with Campagnolo components throughout, including a vintage-correct Campagnolo Record Triple Crankset. This auction also includes a vintage Raleigh “mag-turbo trainer” w/Eddy Merckx Current System and some quality replacement decals I had acquired.

Payment by PayPal only…

Seat-tube: 21.5” center of crank to top of seat tube (54.6cm). Top-tube: 21.5” center of head tube to center of seattube (54.6cm). Weight: Approximately 22lbs.

I bought this bike 15 years ago with plans to restore it. I rode it a few times during the first two months and it’s been hanging in my garage under a cover for over thirteen years. This is not a show bike, but it looks and rides really nice for a “43-YEAR-OLD-CLASSIC” road bike… and will look even nicer when it’s really cleaned up. (The bike will need new sew-ups, the derailleurs/brakes adjusted before riding, and lubrication.)

Color: Mink Blue & silver livery. Grey head-tube and bands on the seat-tube with Gold/brown pinstripe lettering, thin “Raleigh” script on the down tube, “Professional” on top tube. Carlton “belt” decal on seat tube and at top of each fork blade. Campagnolo decal on down tube above shift levers. Raleigh – “Made In Nottingham” head badge.

It has the highly sought after Brampton-Victor “Fastback” seat post lug, allen head seat post bolt. Distinctive semi-fancy “Haden Birds Mouth” lugs with triangular cutout on the seat post lug and both toptube lugs. Frame material is Reynolds 531 double butted tubing and forks. Chrome on half rear stays, half on fork blades/tips and fork crown. Cinelli sloping fork crown. Rapid taper chainstays, dimpled at BB (both sides on right stay, inside of left stay). Campy dropouts with eyelets on front and rear.

Campagnolo Throughout:

Campagnolo Triple Crankset (56,42 and 36 chainrings). Campagnolo Strada 170 crank arms. Campagnolo Record BB. Campagnolo NR front and rear derailleurs (rear: Patent–72). Campagnolo NR shifters. Campagnolo/Patent shifter covers. Campagnolo Superleggero pedals “1037 ” stamped pedal bodies with toe strap loops. Campagnolo 27.2 seat post (two-bolt/two-pin clamp). Campagnolo Record brake calipers with black Campy brake pads. Mint Campagnolo NR brake levers. Campagnolo “Globe logo” gum brake hoods. Campagnolo Record 36-hole, large flange hubs with QR skewers. Campagnolo top tube clamps. Campagnolo Record headset with stamped on bottom ring. Campagnolo “Globe logo” bar plugs (Blue Velox plugs split when packing for shipping). Brooks Professional leather saddle with small rivets. Frame with 126mm rear spacing. Six-speed freewheel (13,15, 17, 19, 21, 24), brand not visible. Rigid 700c sew-up rims. TTT Record cast alloy stem, recessed allen head on expander bolt and recessed flat round head and hex nut on clamp. GB “Map of England” engraved bars, 40cm c-c. Chain brand not visible. 700x25C sew-up tires (dried out and need to be replaced).

——

Again, this is not a pristine show bike. It is a 43-year-old bike that is in very nice condition, but does show some signs of use/wear. There is no major rust or major dents/damage on the frame. The chrome is shinny, but does have some light haze here and there, the paint does have some nicks, scratches and touch ups. Some of the decals are worn, but the bike comes with some high quality replacement decals that I had acquired for restoration. (I misplaced my replacement Reynolds decal, but the BUYER CAN PURCHASE A VINTAGE CORRECT REPLACEMENT “REYNOLDS 531” DECAL THROUGH “H. LLOYD CYCLES” (UK)

Fat-tired randonneuse kitted out to the hilt, svelte road bike with polished C or Super Record, minimalist track bike without an ounce of fat — we love them all, and there’s absolutely zero reason why any should be excluded in favor of another.

When I finally was able to afford one (a Bianchi, since Cinellis were out of reach), I loved the fender-less wheels, the narrow tires, and the almost ethereal appearance of my bike. I promised myself that I’d never ride a bike with fenders again.

The big tires, the wide fenders, the racks, the lights… It is a lot of bike, and it wouldn’t have squared with my vision of the ultimate performance bike. Most of all, I would have thought that the randonneur bike offered less performance…
